Pure Sequences, Impure Sequences, and Sets in Rummy

Every declared JugarVed Rummy hand needs at least two sequences, including one pure sequence. The rest of the hand must also form valid sequences or sets.

Pure sequences

A pure sequence has three or more consecutive cards of one suit without printed-Joker substitution. For example, 5♥, 6♥, 7♥ is pure. An effective wild-rank card may still be used as its natural value when it genuinely completes a pure sequence.

Impure sequences

An impure sequence uses one or more Jokers to fill missing ranks in one suit. For example, 5♠, Joker, 7♠ is an impure sequence in which the Joker represents 6♠.

Sets

A set has at least three cards built around one natural rank. Any natural cards in the group must share that rank and use different suits. Printed or effective wild-rank Jokers can fill the remaining places. For example, 9♥, 9♠, 9♦ is a set.

Printed and selected Jokers

Printed Jokers are always Jokers. The selected wild-rank card makes every card of that rank a Joker for the round. In the JugarVed-specific case where the selected wild card is itself a printed Joker, Aces become the effective wild-rank Jokers. For example, with a printed Joker selected, 7♥, A♦, 9♥ is an impure sequence because the Ace can substitute for 8♥.

Aces in natural pure sequences

An Ace can be used naturally in A♥, 2♥, 3♥ or Q♣, K♣, A♣. It cannot wrap around: K♥, A♥, 2♥ is invalid.

Build the declaration structure

After identifying the declaration discard, group the remaining 13 cards. Check that you have a pure sequence, a second sequence, and only valid remaining groups. Return to the Rummy rules guide or the Rummy overview for the full hand flow.
